Google and Umang join hands to launch suicide hotline for Pakistan
The search engine giant has partnered with Umang in an attempt to provide a solution to the rising rate of suicide in the country.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death across the globe, and the number of people committing suicide is on an increase. To tackle this serious problem, Google has launched a suicide hotline one box for Pakistan.
Users can connect with professionals through the hotline, which is at the top of the search results page. Anyone who searches queries relate to suicide will be shown helpline of Umang Pakistan’s.
The search engine giant has partnered with Umang in an attempt to provide a solution to the rising rate of suicide in the country. According to World Health Organization, Pakistan experiences 130,000 to 270,000 cases of attempted suicide annually.
Mental health has been a taboo in the country, with many people opting to suffer in silence than seek professional help. However, recently the interest in mental health problems has risen, Google Trends depicted that topics like ‘depression,’ suicide and anxiety were on top during 2020-21 in the country.
The update will be available on desktop and mobile phones, both Android and iOS.
