Government announces 2 million job opportunities for the youth of Pakistan

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has announced that government will provide about 2 million job opportunities for the youth of Pakistan. These employment opportunities would be provided under National Youth Employment Policy (NYEP).

At the inaugural event of the Commonwealth Year of Youth, Shaza stated that Pakistan has a huge youthful population with around 150 million people under the age of 30. This makes up 68 percent of Pakistan’s population.

She further added that youth aren’t just the future but also the present. If they are given the right opportunities, they can become valuable assets to the country. The government is giving priority to areas that empower youth like, ‘Blue Collar Jobs,’ ‘Girls learn, girls earn,’ and other respectable job options. The Prime Minister’s Youth Program basically focuses on the four E’s which include: Education, environment, employment, and participation. The Prime Minister’s Youth Program was created in collaboration with the youth and stakeholders to ensure that it is productive and successful.

In addition to this, a National Youth Council which consists of capable and energetic youth contributing to the welfare and development of society has also been made. The government gives priority to people of different socioeconomic backgrounds, people with disabilities, and religious minorities. Moreover, Green Youth Movement was also launched in response to the disastrous effects of climate change in Pakistan.

Khawaja concluded by thanking the Secretary-General for organizing the event. She also requested more efforts to be made for the mobilization of the youth of the country.
