The Government of Pakistan has canceled its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nighat Dad’s Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) due to the case filed against her for embezzlement of funds from abroad.

Sources have revealed that the NGO was accused of embezzling millions of dollars.

The activist was accused of receiving a lot of funds from abroad, which were allegedly used to tarnish Pakistan’s name internationally.

Moreover, as per reports, a letter was sent by Nighat Dad to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. It was stated in the letter that the MOU was being dismissed after the EAD considered the timeline of her NGO’s submitted projects and saw that it had expired.

She further went on to say that under the 2013 policy, DRF may apply again for any foreign-funded projects.
