Following the global outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, the federal government has decided to impose a ban on the import of all kinds of animals and birds with immediate effect.

The Ministry of Commerce upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Health has imposed the ban.

“On the recommendations of the Ministry of National Health, Services, Regulations and Coordination (MNHSR&C), the Ministry of Commerce has imposed a ban on the import of any zoonotic (animals and birds), with immediate effect and until further orders,” Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

The ban will affect poultry feeds and meat imports from China to Pakistan.

The Pakistani government has been taking strict measures to prevent a major outbreak in the country. All passengers arriving from foreign countries are thoroughly scanned at different airports of the country.

At a high-level meeting, the Punjab government decided to put patients with potential dangers of the Coronavirus into isolation for 2 weeks.

The novel coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of more than 700 people with thousands being infected across different countries in the world.
