Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that the government will no more increase taxes on gas and electricity. He says that inflation has been controlled and the prices of commodities will move downward now.

The Prime Minister addressed a gathering after the distribution of Kafalat Cards among the deserving people under the anti-poverty Ehsaas programme.

“I have decided not to increase the power tariff anymore because the people can’t afford anymore. I have decided to take all possible measures to bring down the power tariff in any way”, he said.

Prominent figures like Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Nurul Haq Qadri, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Communications Minister Murad Saeed, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan, Chairperson Ehsaas Program Dr Sanis Nishtar and Governor Shah Farman also took part in the event.

Imran Khan briefed that the prices had increased due to contracts signed by the previous government. He said that the PTI-led government was helpless due to the unjustified contracts and the subsidies provided by the government swelled under circular debt.

The Prime Minister went on to say that the authorities will talk to power producers, urging them to bring down the power prices and close down plants which were unable to produce cost-friendly electricity.

He said that Pakistan was getting gas supply at a high rate because of a 15-year gas contracted signed by the previous government.
According to him, the government had started rectifying the system to create employment opportunities for the people and bring down inflation as a whole.

“We have started rectifying the system now. Don’t worry, the difficult time is over. 2019 was even more difficult. Inflation has been controlled and the prices (of the commodities) will come down”, he said.

Imran Khan said that the launch of Kafalat Card in Mohmand area was to pursue the principles of the Madinah State, which took the responsibility of education, employment and healthcare upon itself.
