Pakistan has a shameful history of neglecting the gems associated with art and literature particularly. While we seldom endorse it overall, especially in their later age, they are left helpless and unattended.
The issue is faced by women mostly. Showbiz and theatre, an industry not seen very ‘respectfully’ in conservative societies, costs women everything in some cases. They are abandoned by their own families for choosing it and hence after they face downfall in in the industry, their popularity declines and new people replace them, the later life often shows painful isolation.
For the welfare of these treasures, the government has planned to launch health cards for the artists, as announced by the Provincial Minister for Information and Culture, Fayyaz Ul Hassan Chohan.
He said that 6000 artists have been added to the list for provision of health cards. He announced this in Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore, where he was distributing cheques to artists during a ceremony.
He said that it is on PTI government’s priority list to provide maximum welfare to the artist community and they are proud of the significant steps they have taken. He added that financial assistance being provided by Punjab government will help artists meet both ends and generally elevate their quality of life, which they truly deserve for their services to the country.
27 artists were presented with cheques and financial aid at the ceremony. Chohan said that Punjab government will provide all sorts of support to those affiliated with art and literature.
“Under the supervision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, we will provide sustained livelihood opportunities to artists” – Fayaz said while speaking at the ceremony.
