Govt Bows Down To TLP, Includes its Representative in Panel To Review Zindagi Tamasha
Following immense pressure from Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, the government has decided to include a representative of the religious party in the panel to review Sarmad Khoosat’s upcoming release, Zindagi Tamasha.
The film’s release has also been postponed till February 3.
“Film will only be cleared if the members of the religious party and government officials approve of the content,” a source told Express Tribune. TLP had also announced to hold a protest against the film on Wednesday. After the government decision to include its representative in the panel, it has decided to call off its protest.
Earlier, Sarmad Khoosat had written an open letter to the PM, president, Chief Justice and Army Chief. Despite the fact that the film was cleared twice by the censor board, the renowned director is still struggling for his right to freedom of expression.
It is not for the first time that the religious party has earned itself a favorable decision from the government using pressure tactics. After Atif Mian, a renowned Economist, was named in the Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Economic Advisory Council (EAC), TLP had taken to the streets against him for being an Ahmadi.
Government was forced to take a U-Turn regarding his appointment despite tall claims by the Prime Minister.
Yesterday, a petition against TLP was also filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
