Pakistan to now manufacture its own SIM and smart cards

The Ministry of Information Technology is set to manufacture SIM and smart cards, for the first time in history, due to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s orders.

All homework and planning have been done by the ministry, they have prepared the final design of local SIM cards, after getting all the stakeholders on board.

The ministry stated that these items were previously imported from China and other countries. MoIT (Ministry of Information Technology) has gained access to the technology needed to manufacture these cards, which will help cut down the imports of the telecom sector.

The ministry has also ordered telcos to stick strictly to the quality standards and normalize the prices for customers.
