Govt Approves Reduction in The Prices of 89 Essential Medicines
Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the current medicine pricing policy will be replaced by a new one in the next two months.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved to reduce the prices of 89 essential medicines today in a meeting of the federal cabinet.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza, while briefing the media about the reduction in medicine prices, said that the government has decided to cut down prices of essential medicines by 15 percent.
The 15 percent reduction in medicine prices was approved against the 10 percent reduction suggested in the medicine price control policy of 2018. According to the medicine price control policy of 2018 government has to reduce the price of any medicine which is included in its essential medicines list by 10 percent each year.
Furthermore, Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the current medicine pricing policy will be replaced by a new one in the next two months. He also said that the government plans to introduce a policy to reform the pharmaceutical sector in Pakistan within the coming weeks.
During the current year, medicine prices witnessed a significant increase. In April, PM Khan had directed for steps to be taken to reduce the medicine prices to facilitate the masses.
