The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has invited applications for accreditation of research journals for year 2023-2024.
The last date for submission of applications has also been announced. The deadline is 13th of March, 2023. As per a statement released by HEC, the goal of accredition is to support national research journals and boost their academic and publication standards. Moreover, providing financial assistance and capacity building are also among the primary goals.
The entities who are eligible to apply for the accreditation include public sector research, degree-awarding institutes and universities. In addition to this, the non-profit academic societies that are registered with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and hold a mandate for research.
Criteria
The HEC has also highlighted requirements that must be met by the journals in order to get accreditation. The requirements have been mentioned below:
1- A valid ISSN
2- A functional website
3- An editorial or advisory board with PhD degree holders in relevant fields or FCPS and FRCSMCPS degrees for medical journals
4- A strong research and publication background
5- Ownership by a university, DAI, R&D organization, private society or an NGO
In addition to this, the journals are also required to have published a minimum of 5 research articles per issue along with two review reports of every article. The editor of the journal would also have to provide a recommendation letter from the head of institute.
HEC has specified that the non-profit academic societies with a mandate for research would only be brought into consideration after they register with SECP or the Registrar of Socieities.
