HEC launches free access to hundreds of online courses offered by world’s leading learning platform, Coursera

Earlier this week, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Mr. Shafqat Mahmood, launched the Phase-II of the Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative. DLSEI is an excellent initiative of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in partnership with one of the world’s most popular online platforms, Coursera.

After completing the DLSEI Phase-I project, the HEC has signed a contract with Coursera and officially launched the Program at a primarily discounted pricing model. 

Through its initiative “Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative,” the HEC plans to enhance online learning and skills development among inspiring students with 1000+ Courses and 28 Learning tracks. 

Addressing the ceremony, Shafqat Mehmood said that Pakistan’s education system has been facing many challenges, particularly lack of quality and relevance, amidst the growing demand for universities.

 He stressed the importance of interventions like Coursera for students and faculty. 

“There’s a tremendous need for skill development in Pakistan. The courses offered through Coursera is an exceptional intervention, especially at a time when the pandemic has greatly heightened the importance of online learning,” he added.
