Decision Pending: HEC considers two possible options for University examinations
HEC has two options: reopen universities or switch to online examinations.
After announcing the cancellation of Board Examinations across the country due to the COVID-19 threat, the Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Tariq Banuri said that the education body is considering to re-open universities for examinations.
While talking to a news outlet, Dr. Banuri said HEC can implement this decision if the COVID-19 situation improves towards the end of May.
‘’On the recommendations of experts, HEC could seek permission from the government to reopen educational institutes for examinations’’, he said.
What if the situation does not improve?
If the situation does not improve, HEC would conduct online examinations or schedule them after the 15th of July 2020. The online exams would evaluate students based on assignments, previous term exams, and research papers.
Although HEC is yet to come to a decision yet, all these options are seriously under consideration. Dr. Banuri called a virtual meeting of the VCs of all universities across Pakistan to discuss these possibilities before taking them to the government.
