Here is everything you need to know and the Orphans and Widows Support Program

The government of Pakistan’s Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division has launched a scheme to benefit widows with school-going children.

The OWSP

The Orphans and Widows Support Program (OWSP) is a conditional cash program and its core objective is to provide quality education, socialization and protection of orphans and widows with fiscal support to lessen the possibility of delinquent behavior among poor orphans.

Further, to sponsor a deserving orphan, specifically a female orphan through family and community-based forms of care.

Initially, in selective districts, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal launched a pilot project in collaboration with BISP and enrolled beneficiaries in OWSP. Now, they intend to assess possible available numbers of such widows having one orphan school/college/university-going girl (age 14 to 18 years) in each district through their District staff, so that OWSP could be run by PBM on its own.

Open Applications

Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal has started taking applications for widows who need financial assistance for basic-to-higher education for their children under the program. Those who want to avail the opportunity should approach the PBM office, along with the required documents (death certificate of husband, B-form of children, and proof of admission).

The OWSP could give as much as a Rs8000 per month scholarship. The application would be processed on first come first served basis.

A notification was issued to directors by the concerned authorities to survey and help gather data on the widows who fulfill the OWSP criteria.
