The suspended middle-order batsman Umer Akmal has reportedly admitted to meeting a bookie before the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
The PCB had suspended Umer Akmal from all cricket related activites yesterday for violating an anti-corruption code without giving any further explanation. But now, sources have claimed that his suspension has come as a result of his contacts with a bookie.
Sources further claim that Umer Akmal was offered millions of rupees for spot-fixing. The anti-corruption unit presented strong evidences of Akmal’s meeting with bookmakers, which he admitted.
According to various media reports, the PCB had intercepted a phone call from Akmal to the bookmakers. After monitoring his conversation with the bookies for four days, the anti-corruption unit finally decided to put the matter forward on the table of Chairman Ehsan Mani.
Although, Umer Akmal was suspended before he could do what was asked of him by the bookies. But he could be facing a ban of two years for not reporting the whole incident to the PCB.
Umar Akmal has accepted allegations of having a contact with Bookie. Atleast two years of ban is expected. PCB Anti Corruption Unit has found conversation of Umar with Bookie. PCB ACU also has evidence of footage/pics of Umar's meetup with Bookie. Umar accepted mistake rightaway.
