Shane Watson was one of the top cricketers who came to Pakistan to play cricket when others were having second thoughts. The all-rounder was part of the Quetta Gladiators team who won the Pakistan Super League (PSL) title in 2019.

The Australian cricket team ended their 24-year tour drought when they arrived in Pakistan over a week ago. Before the start of the first test match, officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) held a joint press conference.

PCB CEO Faisal Hasnain thanked the Aussies for coming to Pakistan for the historic tour.

“I, and the people of Pakistan also welcome Pat Cummins and the entire Australian squad to Pakistan. And I thank them for their individual decisions to tour Pakistan. There are many, many people on both sides that have worked tirelessly, over many, many months to make this tour a reality,” PCB CEO said.

Shane Watson played a huge part in Australia tour:

Before the announcement of Australia’s squad for Pakistan tour, many players had doubts about the security situation in Pakistan. Josh Hazelwood had also expressed his teammates’ concerns, stating that he won’t be surprised if many of his teammates decide against visiting Pakistan.

According to ACA CEO Todd Greenberg, Shane Watson had a big part in convincing the players. He added that the all-rounder assured them that they would be provided with top-notch security.

“Watson provided great context, clarity and confidence for that tour and spoke to a number of the players. And we’ve had individual conversations with not just players, but their families, and we’ve taken them on a long journey with lots of information,” Greenberg said.
