With majority of the cinemas having reopened across the globe, filmmakers are returning back to the cinemas to mesmerise their fans with their finest creations. Here, we will take a look at the Hollywood movies releasing in December 2021:
The Power of the Dog
The latest addition to Benedict Cumberbatch’s list of great movies is The Power of the Dog, which has just been released worldwide on Netflix. It was initially released last month in limited theatres across Australia, New Zealand, United States and the United Kingdom last month. This movie is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Savage. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Plot: A domineering but charismatic rancher wages a war on his brother’s new wife and her teen son – until long hidden secrets come to light.
Don’t Look Up
The fans will see Leonardo DiCaprio as Dr. Randall Mindy, a low-level astronomer along with Jennifer Lawrence in this upcoming satirical science fiction black comedy film. Don’t Look Up will have a limited theatrical release on December 10 but its worldwide release will be on Netflix on December 24th.
It also stars Timothée Chalamet, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Ariana Grande and others.
Plot: Two low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.
West Side Story
West Side Story is one of the many films delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be hitting the cinemas on December 10. The cast includes Ansel Elgort as Tony Rachel Zegler as María, Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Mike Faist as Riff, Rita Moreno as Valentina and others.
Plot: Two teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds fall in love in 1950s New York City.
Spider-man: No Way Home
It is one of the much awaited films of the year. The upcoming instalment of Spider-man stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei all reprising their roles from the previous Spidey films, with Benedict Cumberbatch joining the fray as Doctor Strange. Spider-man: No Way Home will be releasing on December 17th.
Plot: With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high stakes of being a superhero. The Matrix Resurrections
The sequel to the 2003 The Matrix Revolutions will be releasing just in time for Christmas, on December 22, 2021. It stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Pryanka Chopra Jonas and others.
Plot: Plagued by strange memories, Neo’s life takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself back inside the Matrix.
Nightmare Alley
The neo-noir psychological thriller film based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham will release on December 17th. The production design, direction, cinematography and Bradley Cooper performance have received high praise from the critics.
The cast includes Bradley Cooper,Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins and others.
Plot: An ambitious carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.
The Tragedy of Macbeth
Based on the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, it stars Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson. It will be released December 25th.
Plot: Power-hungry Macbeth sets his sights on the Scottish throne after receiving a prophecy from three witches.
The Lost Daughter
It is psychological drama film based on the novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante. The cast of The Lost Daughter includes Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Dagmara Domińczyk, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Peter Sarsgaard, and Ed Harris. It will be released on December 17th.
Plot: A woman’s beach vacation takes a dark turn when she begins to confront the troubles of her past.
Licorice Pizza
The age comedy-drama film will be releasing on December 25th. The cast of this movie includes Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper, and Benny Safdie. It received acclaim from critics.
Plot: The story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973.
