Everything you need to know about the new fascinating Honda Civic 2022’s ‘Smart Card Key’

The Smart Card key is also called the Digital key, and it is currently available in Thailand and Indonesia.

According to sources, the all-new Honda Civic 2022 will be entering the Pakistani auto market in the next couple of weeks. Some experts believe that the launch ceremony will take place on the 24th of February, while some claim that the vehicle will arrive in the country sometime during the first two weeks of March.

To keep Pakistanis on their toes until the launch, Honda Atlas has been entertaining a campaign – teaser series. Every now and then, the auto company unveils details of a new feature introduced in the upcoming sedan. This time, the automaker is talking about the Smart Card key.

What is it, and how does it work?

The Smart Card key is also called the Digital key, and it is currently available in Thailand and Indonesia. This Smart Key is quite similar to your Key Fob/Keyless entry. It means that if this card is in your pocket, you can enter the car by simply opening the door. There’s no need to insert a key anywhere as the car features a Push/Start button.

Although the Smart Card’s functioning resembles a Key Fob, it is different in looks. The Smart Card is shaped like a card, and its size is similar to your CNIC card. The thickness of the card is around 3-4 millimeters which is equal to the thickness of two credit cards.

It is pertinent to mention that this is not a new technology as it has been offered previously in several Japanese cars. However, it is a good thing that Honda Atlas is now offering it in Pakistan.

Upside

The most significant benefit of this card is that you can place it in your wallet, unlike Key Fob. Moreover, like a Key Fob, this card also has space for a conventional key in it. You just have to pull the top part of the card, and the key will come out.

Downside

The downside of this card is that it has limited functionality. With a Key Fob, you can lock/unlock your car from a specific distance, start the car in some cases, and control car windows. On the other hand, a Smart Card doesn’t offer these benefits, and you have to be close to the car to use it. Even when you’re close to the car, the Smart Card only enables you to enter and start the car. To perform other functions, you have to keep a key fob with you.
