Honda HR-V and Honda City to make a comeback in Pakistan? Here’s what we know so far
The automaker is also expected to launch the Honda City in Pakistan, and people can't wait to know more about the vehicle.
Rumor has it that the Honda HR-V might be making a comeback in Pakistan. Honda Atlas introduced the HR-V to the Pakistani auto market five years ago in January 2016. Back then, the CBU unit of the car was priced at Rs. 3.6 million. However, the vehicle failed to capture the market due to tough competition and was discontinued.
As per unofficial and unconfirmed reports, Honda Atlas is now working on bringing the Honda HR-V back. Let’s understand why the automakers are looking to take this decision.
Changing Auto Market:
The current local automobile market and buyer preference have changed significantly as compared to the year 2016. Now the consumers prefer Crossover Utility Vehicles / CUV and Sports Utility Vehicles/ SUV.
The decline in the sales of the Civic and the Corolla and the rise in the sales of the Sportage and the Tucson showcases that the buyers are moving towards crossover vehicles. Therefore, all automakers in the Pakistani industry are launching their cars into these segments to cater to the high demand.
Details about the Honda HR-V Current Generation:
The current generation of HR-V (the second generation) is almost near the end of its life cycle. The vehicle is still in production and will be produced for another year in the global market.
Watch the following video to know more about the current generation of the HR-V (2015).
According to sources, a new third generation of the Honda HR-V is expected to make a public appearance sometime later this year in the international market.
The Honda HR-V is based on the Honda global compact platform and shares its underpinning with the GM series (5th/6th), the Honda City, the Honda Fit/Jazz. The vehicle shares its mechanical components with the Honda BR-V. As per the Honda model lineup, the HR-V sits below the CR-V.
Talking about the engine of the vehicle, the Honda HR-V is available with:
- A 1.5L NA engine, as we see in the Honda City
- A 1.8L engine, as we see in the Civic
- A 1.5L Hybrid, as we see in the Vezel
Experts speculate that either the 1.8L engine or the 1.5L engine Honda HR-V will be launched in Pakistan.
Honda Atlas to launch the Honda City:
The automaker is also expected to launch the Honda City in Pakistan, and people can’t wait to know more about the vehicle.
Sources speculate that Honda Atlas will bring a GM6 Honda City/the 6th generation City to Pakistan. According to sources, the company will utilize the same underpinning and develop a second product in the HR-V form.
It should be noted that the two vehicles share platforms and many mechanical components. Therefore, if produced together, the automaker will be able to cut costs and launch two products in the market together.
Pricing Options for Honda’s Upcoming Vehicles:
According to sources, Honda Atlas will place the two upcoming vehicles in the following price brackets:
- The Honda City – Rs. 3 million +/- (depending upon the variant)
- The Honda HR-V – Rs. 3.5 million
These price points will be able to attract customers who are in the market for the Toyota Corolla, especially the 1.6L Altis and the Hyundai Elantra.
Moreover, Honda Atlas might also launch its 11th generation Civic in a year to 18 months. This vehicle will help the automaker compete against the MG ZS, which might be launched later this year at Rs. 4 million.
Launch Details of the Honda Vehicles:
The possible launch of each Honda vehicle are rumored to be as follows:
- The Honda HR-V – late 2021 or early 2022
- The Honda City – August 2021 or earlier
However, only time will reveal whether the rumors are true or not.
