How Pakistani Celebrities Responded To Bollywood’s Warmongering
Bollywood celebrities have shown their ugly, war hungry face in the recent escalation of tensions between the arch-rivals. India’s voter base is extremely diverse in terms of caste, class, religion, linguistic identity and ethnicity. But one thing that brings them all to one page and has the same impact on everyone. This levies intense responsibility on them to measure each and every one of the word they utter well as it shapes public perceptions and behaviours.
Just yesterday, Priyanka Chopra, who also happens to be UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador was endorsing war. She was schooled by Pakistan’s Armeena Khan, who said to remind Ms Chopra of her hypocrisy every time she mentions and preaches about peace again.
This is not the first time. Even in the past, Bollywood stars have been seen exercising their political influence. For example, Amitabh Bachchan and his key role in positioning spotlight on Narendra Modi even before he became Prime Minister. Though he was already popular in Gujrat, it was Bachchan’s endorsement of Gujrat tourism helped increase his capacity.

Bollywood couldn’t prevent itself from politicisation and it well-reflected times and times again. Even those who dared to speak against the hate narrative was labelled as well. Like back in 2015, Shahrukh Khan tried to touch upon it.
“Yes there is intolerance, there is growing intolerance. People put words in the air even before thinking. Not being secular in this country is the worst kind of crime you can do as a patriot.” – he said.
For his remarks, he was labelled Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath called him ‘terrorist like Hafiz Saeed’. But contrary to that, Pakistani celebrities and influencers have made the country proud with their responsible stance.
Here is how they responded to hate from their Indian counterparts:

“It is easy to advocate peace whilst the sun shines. When the storm rages, it is then your character, principles & values are tested. Will you turn your face into the wind and stand by what is right or will history find you wanting?” – Me #peace #saynotowar ❤️??

I’m watching SOME of these “Bollywood” accounts in dismay, glorifying war (people should take note) In the future, these particular individuals shouldn’t be allowed to preach peace to the world. Artists are supposed to be sane, pacifying voices. ??♀️ #theinternetneverforgets

We need peace! We need words! We need to grow and not regress! There is nothing exciting or spectacular about war, we are talking about REAL HUMAN lives ???

Anyone who is encouraging war between Pakistan and India should be taken out of their house and be forced to fight the war themselves. Tweet karna bohat asaan hai, but for once think of the all the soldiers that die unnecessarily because of this. #PakistanZindabad ??

War is what happens when language fails.
– Margaret AtwoodLet the language of desiring peace, of reaching solutions through dialogue, not fail us now.

There is nothing uglier than people cheering for war.

Anyone who spreads war, chants for war and cheers for war, is ugly. https://t.co/KJZlV00YSM

War Does Not DEtermine who is right ..Only who is left
Say no to war???— Fahad Mustafa (@fahadmustafa26) February 26, 2019
Stop the war-mongering when this region is finally moving towards stability.
We’ve fought the war with terrorism way too long & we know what it looks like.
Pakistan is opting for peace despite the whole circus.
I am so proud of our sensibilities!#PAKISTANZINDABAD ??— MAWRA HOCANE (@MawraHocane) February 27, 2019
