Cricketer-turned-commentators, Ramiz Raja and Sanjay Manjrekar recalled the good old days when Pakistan’s team played under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s captaincy, in a recent videocast.

Manjrekar cherished Khan’s confidence and self-belief that was sky-high throughout his career.

“Imran could hold an audience of Ian Chappell & Mike Procter and be in the center to talk about cricket”, said the former Indian Batsman.

“That is the beauty of the guy. I mean, He is the Prime Minister of the country and he is loved by the peon who opens the door for him, his driver, by the foreign dignitaries and Prime Ministers of the world. You know, he knows how to deal with different tier of the society.”, says Raja.

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Raja stated that Khan always had it in him.

“Even when he was playing with the dead Pakistan team, who was only looking to draw the game, he never had this draw mentality. That is what he told us as well. Either we will win the game or we are going to lose”.

Raja claimed that Khan was great at creating champions. He would put in the effort to convert competent players into world-class performers and that was one of the major reasons why Pakistan won the World Cup back in 1992.

Imran Khan took over the captaincy from Javed Miandad in 1982 and played 88 tests and 175 ODIs for Pakistan. In total, he made 3,807 runs and took 362 wickets in Test cricket. Khan is one of eight world cricketers to have achieved an ‘All-rounder’s Triple’ in Test matches.
