The way Prime Minister Imran Khan conducted himself amid tensions between India and Pakistan is being celebrated as Pakistan’s diplomatic and moral victory. India blamed Pakistan for Pulwama attack literally 30 minutes after it happened. Even after bluntly being labelled and blamed without evidence for the attack, Khan handled the entire situation very sensibly.
Even after India violated Pakistan’s airspace and conducted a self-proclaimed surgical strike, Imran Khan spoke of peace, acknowledged the pain of the grieving families and promised cooperation on all fronts. As a peace gesture and showing that Pakistan stands with peace, Khan announced the release of IAF pilot captured by Pakistani forces one day later.
Addressing India one again, Khan offered them to sit on table and talk. While speaking to National Assembly session, he said both countries should work towards poverty alleviation and job creation. He said that rather than chanting slogans of war, the subcontinent should focus on the real challenges and work to eliminate them collaboratively.
”I want to tell this august house, Pakistan desires peace. Pakistan intends to work for poverty alleviation, investment, and job creation. We do not intend war. In our desire of peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody” – he said.
