Charsadda: In-laws Kill Teenager For Not Giving Birth To Male Child

Determinants of a plagued society: Even in 2018, why is a woman’s worth gauged by how many sons she has?

17 years old Saadia was murdered by her in-laws in the name of ‘honor’ for not giving birth to a son in Charsadda District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this Wednesday.

Saadia was married to 50 years old Kamil Khan in mere her teenage. It was Kamil’s second marriage as he was unable to have a male child with his first wife, victim’s father Latif reported.
Latif said that due to poverty and him having the responsibility of seven daughters on his shoulders, he married his daughter off to a man equal to his own age.

He said that their relationship started getting complicated after she was unable to bear children.
“In the beginning they were happy but the relationship soured after my daughter was unable to bear children.” – Latif said talking to Express Tribune.

Last Friday, she was divorced by her husband and thrown out of their house. She came back to her father’s house but was then abducted and taken back to their residency in Mohmand Agency. Local authorities reached their house to rescue her but in vain, as she has already been killed by her in-laws by that time.

Latif said that he reached the police for help but was denied any aid.

“I’ve implored the political administration to arrest the culprits but the police have not taken any action as they say it is de-facto tribal area’’ – he said.

A police official also confirmed the said source that the case can’t be registered as it is disputed area.
Assistant Political Agent Lower Mohmand Tauseef Kha, however, informed that one of the culprits have been arrested and the investigations are underway.
