Indian healer, who claimed to cure COVID-19 by kissing people’s hands, dies after contracting the virus
He turned the district into a local virus hotspot, with 85 confirmed cases, out of which 46 are still active.
An Indian healer, who claimed to have the ability to cure COVID-19 by kissing people’s hands, has lost his life to the virus. He also infected members of his own family and numerous other people who came to him for treatment.
The baba was a ‘black magic healer’ from Ratlam district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. He told his followers that he could cure them by kissing their hands, which itself is quite a foolish idea since the virus spreads from physical contact.
Ratlam’s District Magistrate Ruchika Chauhan said that after experiencing severe symptoms, he got himself tested. He passed away soon after his test came out positive.
After contact tracing, it has been found that seven of his family members and thirteen followers have also tested positive for the novel virus. After his death, 150 people from the Nayapura region were placed in quarantine because they came in contact with him before his death.
He turned the district into a local virus hotspot, with 85 confirmed cases, out of which 46 are still active. There might also be patients who are asymptomatic or yet to be diagnosed.
Chauhan said that after this incident, they realized there might be more self-proclaimed healers, who are making similar claims.
”We have led an intelligence team and identified about 20 such babas, who have now been placed in quarantine”, he said.
