Rash drivers will now have to watch their step, as Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will now suspend driver’s license of frequent law offenders.

This step is to ensure that discipline is maintained on the roads of the capital. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Syed Mustafa Tanveer recently announced the a new accountability mechanism for those who violate traffic rules.

In order to implement this practice, the department will review digital challan record on a regular basis and pinpoint habitual law breakers. If there is someone with multiple violations, their driver’s license will be cancelled. The SSP remarked that if a driver cannot drive a vehicle with responsibility on the road, they should not own a license.

He also urged the zonal deputy superintendents (DSPs) to keep a firm stance against reckless driving. According to a report, the department has already pinpointed seventeen such drivers under sections 15 and 16 of the Motor vehicle Ordinance.

Six of these identified violates have been ordered to attend traffic rules and safety classes for five days. On the other hand, the rest of the 11 people are facing strict action from authorities, including cancellation of their driver’s license.

SSP Tanveer made it clear that the department will no longer tolerate traffic rules violates and will take strict actions against them.
