The Israeli Minister of Regional Cooperation, Ofir Akunis, has dismissed news reports claiming that Pakistan had recognized the State of Israel.

Speaking to an Israeli TV channel, Akunis revealed that Israel was working towards formalizing its relations with a fifth Muslim country during US President Donald Trump’s term. However, the country in question is not Pakistan.

The Israeli Minister, said, “There will be an announcement from the United States about another Muslim nation that is going public with the normalization of relations with Israel.”

Akunis also refused to name the country but did reveal two possible candidates, one of which is in the Gulf. He did say that it is not the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which leaves Oman as a potential candidate.

Pakistan has categorically declined baseless speculations regarding the possibility of it recognizing the State of Israel on many occasions.

The Foreign Office said, “The Prime Minister, Imran Khan has made it clear that unless an impartial settlement of the Palestine issue satisfactory to the Palestinian people is affirmed, Pakistan cannot recognize Israel.”
