ITU registrar and close ally of Dr. Umar Saif accused of illegal extension, corruption, and covering for ghost employees
He has been under criticism for getting extensions twice unlawfully in the past as well.
The registrar of Information Technology University (ITU), Zaheer Sarwar, is in hot waters as he has been found involved in a corruption scandal. ITU is a public university that was founded in 2012 and headed by Dr. Umar Saif.
ITU was said to be modeled after the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Zaheer, who is a close ally of Saif, has been accused of administrative failures, financial corruption, and covering up for ghost employees. He has been under criticism for getting extensions twice unlawfully in the past as well.
According to the available reports, Zaheer was serving in the position of the registrar for the past 7 years. He was previously in hot waters for his extension, as he got it twice even when the ITU Lahore Act does not allow it.
After the Higher Education Commission (HEC) started a probe into the financial corruption, Zaheer immediately resigned and detached himself from the institution, making the affair more suspicious.
