Jamia Hafsa Students Take Full Responsibility For Defacing Feminist Mural, Announce A Counter March To Aurat March
Students from Jamia Hafsa have taken full responsibility for defacing a mural, which was painted ahead of Aurat Azadi March in G-7.
The march has been threatened in two applications filed with the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration. Meanwhile Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl and Umme Hasaan, wife of Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, have proposed numerous plans to cancel it.
In a video, Umme Hasaan said that they will launch a ‘counter protest’ on the same day, titled as ‘haya march’ because its participants will be in veils.
Mohammad Tariq, secretary to JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman was confident that Islamabad administration will stop the Aurat Azadi March, which will take place on 8th March 2020.
“If it happens then we too will not sit idle and bring our people on the streets to show them the true colour of Islam and Pakistani culture”, he said.
He announced that Jamaat-i-Islami will hold their own ‘aurat march’ at 10 am and at the same venue as Aurat Azadi March.
A statement, which was signed by students of ‘Jamia Hafsa’ was made public, in which they took full responsibility for defacing the mural, even though a senior Lal Masjid cleric had earlier ensured that members of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat defaced the mural.
In a statement, the students said that it is their duty in accordance with the principles of Sharia to stop acts that were a conspiracy to promote obscenity in the country.
The students also threatened that they will stop participants of the march and said that citizens of Islamabad should force supporters of the march out of their localities.
Two applications were filed against the Aurat Azadi March. One of these was by the administrator of a seminary overlooking the venue, and the other by a spokesperson of Shuhada Foundation Pakistan.
