Maryam Nawaz and co have met criticism in the past for plagiarizing their slogans from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and using the poems dedicated to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and fixing her name in between. However, now, people are of the opinion that they have over-stepped the boundary.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN)’s vice president and member of national assembly compared Maryam Nawaz’s political journey with Benazir Bhutto and Fatima Jinnah. He implied that Maryam has carried on the political legacy of Fatima Jinnah, who struggled for civilian supremacy in the country.

The comparison, which can be deemed as ‘absurd’ considering the fact that Maryam’s political struggle, for the most part, has been self-centred, irked the social media community.

Khurram Zia Khan, in his piece ‘No, Maryam Nawaz can never emulate Benazir Bhutto or her political legacy’ expressed the same views. He wrote that the same who admire Benazir and her hardships are failing to replicate her resilience in such situations.

”Sometimes I do admire Maryam for trying to follow in Benazir’s footsteps, but in actuality, she needs to step out from under her father’s shadow. She needs to show the masses that she is someone who is capable of replacing Benazir. Maryam and her supporters declared her summon to the JIT panel as an insult to women and some even went to the extent of saying:

JIT ne chadar aur char deewari ka taqudus pamal kiya hai.”

(The JIT has marred the piety of women.)

These very same people do not realise that Benazir was summoned to Pakistani courts on various occasions during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s tenure in the 90s.” (read his piece HERE)

Social media community has reacted alternatively to the comparison in quite an unforgiving matter.
