Here are some harassment allegations against Biden
Many people don’t know the Former Vice President and the US Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden, faced scrutiny over his interactions with women and his refusal to apologize for his controversial behavior.
Harassment Allegations against Biden:
The former Senate aide, Tara Reade, alleged in April 2019 that Biden touched her in ways that made her feel awkward while she was working in his Senate office in 1993. In March 2020, Reade claimed that Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993.
Reade said, “Biden repeatedly put his hand on my shoulder and ran his finger up my neck while I was employed in his Senate office in the early ’90s.”
The aide also alleged that she was asked to serve drinks at a work event because Biden liked her legs. Reade said that her work responsibilities were reduced when she refused to serve drinks, which made her leave the job.
A Democratic politician, Lucy Flores, alleged in March 2019 that the former vice president grabbed her shoulders from behind, kissed and smelled the back of her head without her permission during a campaign event in 2014.
She added, “My brain couldn’t process what was happening. I felt helpless to do anything about it. Even if Biden’s behavior wasn’t violent or sexual, it was demeaning and impolite.”
A former Democratic staffer, Ally Coll, told a source in April 2019 that when she met Biden in 2008, he complimented her smile, pressed her shoulders, and held her “for a bit too long.”
A progressive organizer, Sofie Karasek, was photographed holding hands and touching foreheads with Biden at the 2016 Academy Awards. Karasek said she felt Biden had encroached on her personal space.
A photograph from the event of the then-22-year-old and Biden went viral on the internet, but Karasek told the source in 2019 that she felt Biden had violated her personal space.
A business owner and Democratic political activist named Amy Stokes Lappos claims that the vice president pulled her face very close to him during a 2009 political fundraiser.
Lappos said that Biden “put his hands behind my head and pulled me so close and I thought, ‘he was going to kiss me.'”
A former college student, Caitlyn Caruso, said that after she shared her harassment story at a University of Nevada event in 2016, the politician hugged her “a little bit too long” and put his hand on her thigh.
Caruso added, “It doesn’t even really cross your mind that such a person would dare perpetrate harm like that.”
After the initial charges were made public in 2019, Biden released a two-minute video, but he was criticized for giving what critics considered a “non-apology apology,” in which he said he would try to do better moving forward. He later said he is “not sorry for anything that I have ever done.”
Social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it. pic.twitter.com/Ya2mf5ODts
