Karachi Port handles 894,017 tonnes of cargo this week, shows improvement in trade

Cargo handling operations remained active at Port Bin Qasim and the Port of Karachi during the outgoing week.

A total volume of around 894,017 tonnes was handled at the Port of Karachi, in which the share of exports and imports were 217,319 tonnes and 676,689 tonnes, respectively.

The share of oil and containerized cargo and liquid cargo stood at 298,082 tonnes and 251,340 tonnes in the import category.

These were followed by 21,066 tonnes of bulk cargo, 36,404 tonnes of soybean seeds, 23,576 tonnes of steel scrap and iron, 45,444 tonnes of wheat, and 786 cattle.

Export cargo handling at the Port of Karachi stood at 146,845 tonnes of containerized cargo.

This was followed by 1,069 tonnes of bulk cargo, 29,000 tonnes of clinkers, 17,155 tonnes of iron ore, 21,250 tonnes of cement, and 2,000 tonnes of liquid cargo and oil.

Around 27 ships sailed out, and 35 ships took berth during the last week.

At Port Qasim, a complete cargo volume of 862,621 tonnes was handled, comprising 229,843 tonnes of export and 632,814 tonnes of import during the last week.

Imported cargo comprised LNG, steel coil, coal, palm oil, motor gasoline, LNG, wheat, chemical, project cargo, and containerized cargo. Goods exported included cement and containerized cargo.
