Karachi Port trust (KPT) sees a 25% growth in cargo in FY21

The KPT (Karachi Port Trust) realized substantial growth in cargo handling in the last 11 months, indicating healthy economic activity in Pakistan.

This was revealed by the Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi.

The latest data disclosed that the KPT recorded a 25.71% rise in cargo from July 2020 to May 2021.

Likewise, it witnessed a 13.6% increase in container handling and a 21.3% rise in ship movement.

Meanwhile, cargo volumes at Port Qasim increased by 12.65% from July 2020 to May 2021.

The minister stated the South Asian country was on the ascent and that this robust trade activity revealed that Pakistan was on the right course.

In May this year, KPT had said it had saved ₨. 602 million in managing and working expenditures due to prudent financial administration, productive use of resources, and decreasing costs.

Zaidi had also stated earlier that after the Port Qasim Authority (PQA), a distinct Management Information System would also be authorized at the KPT.

The authorities are striving to guarantee transparency in all ministries via the usage of technology, and all organizations under the Maritime Affairs ministry are also set to be digitized.

New staff for the agency would be drafted strictly on merit, the minister notified.
