NAB arrests another opposition leader from PML-N, opposition calls the arrest as political victimization

Ex-premier of the country and a member of the leading opposition party has been taken into custody by the premier institute of accountability. Shahid Khakan Abbassi was summoned by the NAB as of today in relation to the allegations of corruption leveled against him.

The arrest warrant of Shahid Khakan Abbasi has mentioned that after the arrest he shall be produced before the court for authorization of detention.

Whereas Shahid Khakan Abbasi is accused of commission of the offense of corruption and corrupt practices under section 9(a) of National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 and Schedule thereto, NAB statement read.

The former prime minister of Pakistan has been arrested in connection with the LNG case by NAB. He was arrested while traveling to Lahore to attend the conference by Shahbaz Sharif, Geo News reported.

Accusations against Shahid Khakan Abbasi

Abbasi is accused of handing over a tender to a company in which he himself was a shareholder. The tender worth more than 200 billion rupees.


Opposition leaders are calling the arrest political victimization. Ahsan Iqbal of PML-N reacted to the arrest of Shahid Khakan Abbassi and said: “Former PM Shahid Khaqan arrested on an uncertified photocopy. “N League Accountability Bureau (NAB)” arrests SVP of PMLN. Mega corruption scandals remain untouched under the PTI umbrella.”

Disgruntled opposition leader and daughter of former three times prime minister of Pakistan Maryam Nawaz has called the arrest as a disrespect to the people’s vote. She has also shared the video of the arrest on her Twitter account.

Several other opposition leaders are already in the NAB custody and former law minister was arrested by Anti-Narcotics Force on the allegations of smuggling.
