[PRICE, FEATURES, PERFORMANCE] Kia’s Sorento SUV is all set to hit the Pakistani auto-market

Kia is all set to bring the Sorento to Pakistan. The car manufacturers have decided to take a shot at the supposed mid-sized SUV king of the Pakistani market, the Toyota Fortuner, with its offerings.

Reports suggest that Kia’s crossover SUV lies somewhere between the compact Sportage and the full-sized Telluride SUVs. Considering this, the vehicle’s direct competitors are the Toyota Fortuner and the Hyundai Santa Fe.

A few CBU units of the Sorento SUV have already been brought to Pakistan by Kia. These include the 2.4-liter engine and the 3.5-liter V6 engine options. The company will dissect and analyze the SUVs to figure out gaps and loopholes and mend them while they can. After that, the units will be sent out into the Pakistani market, positioned as complete knockdown (CKD) units.

To make this possible, the car manufacturer is initially importing 46 CBUs, followed by local assembly akin to the Sportage and Picanto.

The 4th gen Sorento will hit the international market dealerships, while the 3rd gen Sorento will hit the Pakistani market dealerships.

Kia expects Sorento to be as successful as the Sportage in Pakistan as soon as it enters the gradually rising SUV market of Pakistan. Reports suggest that the company is selling over a thousand units of the Sportage per month.

Now that enough hype has been established for the Kia Sorento SUV, let’s get down to everything we currently know about the vehicle:

The SUV is available in a variety of engine options across the globe; however, the Pakistani market will receive two main engine options:

  • A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 169 horsepower and 220 newton/meters of torque
  • A 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine that makes 276 horsepower and 336 newton/meters of torque

Both the engines can be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels or the front wheels only, depending on how the car is optioned.

Both the SUVs have a suspension setup that includes a McPherson Struts Upfront and Multi-link, coil spring suspension outback, and standard disk brakes on all four wheels with ABS technology.
