KP about to become the first-ever province to enact Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policy

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is about to become the first-ever province to enact the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policy. After a number of sessions with stakeholders, policymakers, youth, and experts, the draft ‘zero’ of the new STI policy has been finalized by the Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of KP.
The month-long sessions included group discussions and questionnaire survey interviews. The groups collectively worked together to observe the needs, scope, nature, and aims of the provincial STI framework.
It was ensured that this STI framework would cater to the demands of the future.
In 2012, a national STI policy was enacted but none of the provincial governments formulated their own policies. Executive Committee member of the KP STI policy Mr. Ahsan Hamid Durrani explained the importance of this new policy while talking to a news outlet.
Mr. Ahsan said the policy of KP is a brief strategy, which will help shape the STI ecosystem of the province. It will help relevant departments address the growing socio-economic challenges of the modern world.
Ahsan further said that without science, technology and innovation, progressing in fields like education, food & agriculture, health, environment, and rural development and livestock & dairy, etc. is not possible. This, according to him, necessitates the province to form its STI strategy.
