In a bid to boost tourism, KP Government will be providing grants to the locals
Eco-tourism villages will be initiated in three Kalash valleys of Chitral and the Hazara Divisions.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) tourism ministry has made the decision to provide grants to locals, for setting up their own guesthouses and simultaneously upgrade the tourism department.
As per an official, the problem was talked about during a meeting held at the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture. With the goal to promote tourism in the country, KP provincial government has decided to, not only offer grants but also give financial aid to the locals for developing eco-tourism villages in Hazara Divisions and Chitral. This will create more job opportunities for the communities living in localities and also, help preserve the environment.
In the first phase, eco-tourism villages will be initiated in three Kalash valleys of Chitral and the Hazara Divisions. Later on, this will grow and duplicate in other areas.
“Later, the idea will be replicated in other areas of Chitral and Hazara Divisions including Nathia Gali, Naran, Kaghan, Thandiani, and Galiyat,” the official said.
While answering a question, he said that the tourism ministry will create an application, which will help locals showcase the features of their guest houses.
“Locals will be allowed to develop their own travel packages in order to facilitate the tourists by providing food, accommodation and travel guidance.”
“The number of tourists that visited Pakistan rose to 1.9 million last year. This has underlined the need for adopting an eco-tourism model in order to ensure the economic well-being of the locals engaged with the tourism sector,” he continued.
