KP govt to establish engineering university in Swat following the modern ‘triple helix model’
Education is one of the main factors in the development and growth of a country.
- The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to build an engineering and technology university in Swat.
- The project is estimated to cost Rs 4 billion.
- Initially, the university would start six disciplines, including Energy engineering, Civil engineering, Mining and metallurgy, Biomedical engineering, Computer system engineering.

Triple Helix Model
To link the government, industry, and academics with one another the intended university would be run on the triple helix model.
The Chief Planning Officer of the Higher Education Department, Hamid Naveed, said, “Unlike other universities in the province that entirely depend on the government funds, the SUET will have its own sustainability plan.”
The Chief Minister of KP, Mahmood Khan, has appointed Hamid Naveed as a focal person for the establishment of SUET at a fast pace.
Initially, the university would start six disciplines, including:
- Energy engineering,
- Civil engineering,
- Mining and metallurgy,
- Biomedical engineering,
- Computer system engineering
Joint degree programs with International universities
The founding director of the US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies, Dr. Najeebullah, said, “We will also make efforts to introduce dual/joint degree programs with the universities from the US and UK.
Dr. Najeeb also said that association with the best universities in the world would steadily improve the quality of SUET.
According to the sustainability plan of SUET, the university would have three major sectors, including:
- Academic wing,
- Think tank,
The academic wing will monitor the activities related to the academics of the university. The think tank in the form of conducting case studies will help the government and private sectors in policy formations.
The enterprise wing will be in charge of fundraising and searching for several business opportunities.
