KP passes historic bill to make punishments for violence against children more severe

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has finally passed the much needed provincial Child Protection and Welfare (Amendment) Bill, 2022. Those involved in crimes against children will get much more strict punishment than before.

Now, people who are found involved in selling organs of children will be sentenced to death or life imprisonment and fine which shall not be less than two million to five million rupees. Earlier, the fine was just 1 million rupees.

Furthermore, the fine and jail time for a person involved in child pornography has also been increased. The offender shall be sent to jail for a minimum of 14 years, the jail sentence can also be extended to 20 years.

Before the latest amendment in the law, the punishment for child pornography was only three-seven years imprisonment and fine of Rs200,000-Rs500,000. The punishment for the seduction of a child has also been increased to 10 year jail time and up to two million fine.

Child traffickers will now get life sentence, which may extended to 25 years, but which shall not be less than 14 years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to Rs5 million.
