KP to launch Food Card Program in the upcoming annual budget

Under the proposed scheme, it is initially proposed to provide free of cost wheat flour or supply four basic food commodities at subsidized rates.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has decided to launch a Food Card Program in the upcoming annual budget.

Khan has directed the quarters concerned to take necessary measures to finalize the proposed Food Card Program by the new fiscal year’s budget.

Under the proposed scheme, it is initially proposed to provide free of cost wheat flour or supply four basic food commodities at subsidized rates to deserving households. About one million households and over five million individuals will benefit from the Program.

The CM has taken this decision while chairing a meeting of the food department held on Thursday. The Special Assistant to CM on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Additional Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary Finance Ikramullah Khan, Secretary Food Mushtaq Ahmad, and other relevant officials of the food department attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed in detail about the primary sketch and features of the Program, registration of deserving households, estimated expenditure, implementation mechanism, and other various aspects of the scheme.

The meeting also reviewed the proposals for providing basic food items to deserving households at subsidized rates under the proposed scheme.
