Lahore: Free Transport Service Launched for Shelter Homes

Shelter homes for years have provided all the basic necessities to those are helpless. In the city of Lahore, another luxury has been made available for the people who are in shelter homes.

Free transport service has been launched for not only people in shelter homes but also homeless and labourers. Right now, the service is available at five different shelters homes in Lahore that have been set up by the government.

The district authorities have set up makeshift shelter homes near bus stations and railways. These shelters are at Data Darbar, Thokar Niaz Baig, Badami Bagh Sabzi Mandi, Lorri Adda, and Lahore Railway Station.

The transportation services will run around shelter homes and the other surrounding area. It will be available from 6 am to 10 pm as per the authorities. Saleha Saeed, Lahore Deputy Commissioner, stated that different officials or assistant commissioners will supervise and keep a check on the shuttle service.

There were only two wagons at the beginning of this thoughtful initiative, but it is gradually expanding. Medical services and the food is also available at these makeshift shelters totally free of cost. PM Imran Khan, being accompanied by many other officials went to visit these facilities and inspect the services and living conditions being provided to the people at shelter homes in Islamabad.

After inspection, the PM told the administration to provide a free shuttle service for the people. The shuttle service will drop labourers at their workplaces and then help them back to the shelter home in the evening. About 8000 individuals are being facilitated at the makeshift shelters that the government has set up.

According to the statistics from the district administration, 300 people per week are accommodated in these shelter homes. The Punjab Social Welfare Department, Civil Defence and Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) are also contributing in this thoughtful initiative.
