In an interesting development, locals discover oil during a water bore in Islamabad’s residential area

According to reports, the residents of sector H-13 in Islamabad have discovered oil beneath their houses. The shocking development was uncovered when a water bore was being drilled in a house.

As soon as the word spread in a flurry of text messages and phone calls, dozens of locals rushed to the area and started drilling holes to extract the oil. Some people went a little overboard with their extraction projects and installed suction pumps to pump out the oil.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammed Hamza Shafqat, took notice of the situation and ordered the local administration to seal the area, pending an inquiry subject to the Commissioner’s office.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad took to Twitter and said:

At the moment, we have sealed over a dozen such pumps. Locals were selling the oil to brick kilns. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has also been notified of the development, and it is currently investigating the issue with the concerned authorities.

The locals are now waiting on a word from the authorities. The OGRA and government will discuss the matter after the investigation is complete to devise a way forward.
