Gen Bajwa is also the Chairman of China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Last month, on the 21st of April 2020, Pakistan allowed Bulk Afghan Transit Cargo through Gwadar in ‘sealable trucks’.
The permit would begin operations at the Gwadar Port and activities along the CPEC Western Route. This would also benefit in generating business opportunities for locals.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Afghan Transit trade suffered because of the closure of border crossing. However, the Gwadar port started handling transit cargo being shipped to Afghanistan in January 2020.
