CONFIRMED: Mawish Hayat to play Benazir Bhutto in her biopic
What do you think about this?
On the occasion of Benazir Bhutto’s 65th birthday, it was announced that Mehwish Hayat would be playing the ex-prime minister in her biopic, as the actress had signed the deal for the role!
Pakistan’s rumor mill had the word going around for a long time about Hayat playing the part of Pakistan’s first female prime minister in a biopic film, but the news was finally proven true after the deal was made official.
The Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani star confirmed she’d signed the deal when she made her appearance on ‘Aik Din Geo Ke Saath’, which was aired on Geo.
As of now, she said, the project is still under development given the magnitude of the tragic story. Meanwhile, her most recent role will next be in Humayun Saeed’s London Nahi Jaunga.
She continued on to talk about the biopic, saying, “InshAllah. It is a huge subject and a very complicated one, her story is so inspirational. [I think] that our current generation and the one that is to come, needs to see her contributions, struggles, progress, her life.”
However, when the idea for the film was first proposed, it had instantly faced a lot of backlash especially from Bhutto’s family herself. Benazir’s daughter, Bakhtawar immediately put the idea to rest as no consent had yet to be sought out from the family for the biopic.
The idea has now blossomed into a full-blown project, so at this point, only time will tell where the wind of approval will blow for this one.
