A medical student who is working as a street clown for her mother’s medical treatment has received help from the Punjab government.
Saima is a medical student and aspired to become a doctor one day. However, her life turned upside down when her father and two brothers died within three years, leaving no one but herself to take care of her ill mother.
She could not afford a full-time job as she had to attend to her mother, so she took a part-time job in a local firm but left it after facing harassment.
In an interview with a local news outlet, Saima revealed that there was a time when she even considered begging on the streets. However, instead of losing hope, she decided to become a street clown and sell children’s toys.
She further went on to say that people, probably mistaking her for a transgender person, even slapped her and called names, but she ignored this humiliation.
The interview went viral and attracted the attention of the provincial government. Last week, the CM Punjab, Usman Buzdar, contacted Saima and formed a medical board to examine her mother, diagnosis, and cost estimates.
Later on, the CM directed the DC Lahore to hand over Saima a check for financial aid along with a letter of employment in Civil Defense.
