‘’Passion is one great force that unleashes creativity, because if you’re passionate about something, then you’re more willing to take risks’’
The quote by Yo-Yo Ma seems right in all the connotations when you see 33 years old teacher Mahjabeen Baloch, covered in hijab, fearlessly riding her motorbike in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Mahjabeen completed her master’s degree in Political Science from Bahauddin Zakariya University and discovered her passion for teaching. She wanted to dedicate her life to transfer the gift of knowledge to neglected children of far-flung tribal areas but her goal did ask her for unmatched courage, effort and bravery. She is a resident of Basti Sokar area and the school where she teaches at is located in Basti Kaleri – so she travels approx. 30 km every day on her bike to perform her job.
The area is known for compromised security as recently security forces lead an operation there to sabotage the extremist elements. But Mahjabeen stands fearless and strong, doing her due part in the betterment of the society.
She says that she is pursuing her dream.
‘’My dream is to educate the children residing in tribal areas. I will do my utmost best to empower the children of South Punjab’’ – (source: Pro Pakistani)
She is also a mother of six children. She says that sometimes it gets tough to maintain a balance between personal and professional life. She added that riding a motorbike is not a choice but, in fact, she has no other option. No public transport has the access to the area and she cannot let this hurdle defeat her passion.
She is the only female teacher at her school. Her students have pure admiration for everything she is doing and preaching. They also say that she has never been late to school – not even once in six years.
