Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to collaborate with Meta to raise awareness against scams.

In order to spread knowledge about e-commerce fraud, and provide suggestions on staying safe online, Meta has teamed up not just with PTA, but also Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

Meta joins PTA to raise awareness about digital scams

The program will help the masses of Pakistan to avoid online scams and frauds, which are often successful in Pakistan due to a lack of awareness. A Meta representative also remarked that content creators like Bilal Munir and Romaisa Khan were also working with the company to inform their fanbase.

The two creators would provide advice in Urdu, and urge sellers and buyers to be on the lookout for online fraud. Director of Meta’s Policy Programmes for the Asia Pacific region, Beth Ann Lim, commented on the partnership, saying that the company is committed to connecting people. Likewise, another objective is to make it easier for sellers and buyers to find each other online, but some people take advantage of others through online scams. According to the Director General of PTA’s Online Analysis Division, Kamran Gandapur, e-commerce scams are a big problem for consumers and businesses.

Meta and PTA’s partnership will raise awareness among the people in Pakistan, making them able to protect themselves against scams, as they navigate digital space for buying and selling products.

“We were pleased to partner with Meta to raise awareness among people in Pakistan so they can be better equipped to protect themselves from scams, as they navigate the digital space for buying and selling and building their online communities,” Gandapur said.

Likewise, PTA and TDAP will also collaborate to distribute information on account security and spotting frauds with a wider audience to raise awareness amongst users online.
