Minister Noorul Haq Qadri proposes celebrating ‘International Hijab Day’ instead of Aurat March

He is of the view that rather than Aurat March, people should shift their focus on the discrimination Muslim women are facing in India.

Minister proposes banning Aurat March

Federal Minister for Religious and Minority Affairs, Noorul Haq Qadri has penned down a letter to PM Imran Khan, advocating ‘against’ Aurat March.

In the letter, he wrote that March 8 should be celebrated as ‘International Hijaab Day’ and not Aurat March. The minister went on to say that no one should be allowed to mock Islamic values.

He is of the view that rather than Aurat March, people should shift their focus on the discrimination Muslim women are facing in India, and other countries in the world, due to their religious attire.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman took notice of the matter and shared her own opinion on it. She said that International Women’s Day is to celebrate women of all classes. It is to raise awareness against the gender stereotypes and prejudices women face on a regular basis.

She went on to say that it is internationally celebrated, with women in all countries across the world voicing their opinion.

Aurat March

The Aurat Azaadi March is organized on the 8th of March every year in different cities of Pakistan. Women protests on the streets, marching for their rights and raising voices against gender-based injustice.

Regardless of the ‘hate’ it gets from the moral brigade, the participants are all set to take over the streets for the fourth consecutive year.
