VIDEO: Mohammad Hafeez claims Brian Lara was scared of his bowling
“I dismissed one of my favorite batsmen, Brian Lara”, Hafeez
The 39-year-old Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has claimed that former West Indian, left-handed batting legend, Brian Lara, had a hard time facing his off-spin.
Hafeez, in his international career, dismissed Lara thrice – twice in One-day Internationals (ODIs) and once in Test cricket. Lara was undoubtedly a success story for the West Indies, however, the southpaw also holds a plethora of records in One-Day cricket.
Throughout his career, Hafeez has enjoyed considerable success against left-hand batsmen in particular.
“Left-handers have always had difficulty facing me. However, I have bowled well to right-handers as well. If you look at my economy rate, it’s the same against both,” Hafeez shared while speaking to a local news channel.
“I dismissed one of my favorite batsmen, Brian Lara, as well,” he added.
“He [Lara] also admitted that he had difficulty batting against me. He was a world-class batsman, and there are very few batsmen who played spinners as well as Lara,” he claimed.
The 39-year-old shared that when he could not perform well with the bat, he always had his bowling to fall back on.
“If I was not able to perform with the bat in some match, I used to make up for it with my bowling,” he said.
The Upcoming ICC T20 World Cup might be his last International cricket tournament as Hafeez is planning to retire.
“I want to retire from international cricket after playing the next T20 World Cup. I hope I can end my career with grace and respect,” he said.
