Meet the inspiring mother-son duo who is working tirelessly to eradicate polio from Pakistan

Mujeeb Khan and his mother are polio-workers and are being hailed as 'heroes' for their thoughtful and selfless efforts.

As the anti-polio drive is slowly gaining momentum in Pakistan after the COVID-19 lockdown, a mother-son duo is working tirelessly to help eradicate the disease.

Mujeeb Khan and his mother are polio-workers and are being hailed as ‘heroes‘ for their thoughtful and selfless efforts. Khan shared a picture with his mother, inspiring the online community on how the two are trying to do their part in Pakistan’s war against polio.

People were full of praise for the duo:

Polio in Pakistan

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world that are still fighting the disease. 70 cases of polio have been reported in Pakistan during 2020 so far. For the year 2019, the number of documented cases stood at 147.

Pakistan’s anti-polio drive has faced many obstacles, with militancy and misinformation being the main hindrance to its success. Even though the incumbent government is making tireless efforts to defeat the disease, there is still a long way to go.

Just like doctors and paramedics who fought against COVID-19 on the frontline, it is important we recognize the efforts of polio workers and encourage them.

To show appreciation, PM Imran Khan previously invited a polio worker named Irfanullah to the PM House and personally thanked him for his services. Irfanullah gained popularity after a video of him making way through deep snow to vaccinate children in remote areas went viral.
