Mother’s decision to remarry becomes a nightmare for daughters as they were raped by their own step-father, uncle

In a video statement on social media, Maryam revealed that before the marriage, her stepfather and uncle raped her and her eight-year-old sister Noor.

Shagufta Bibi, a resident of Awami Colony in Korangi District, Karachi, works as a domestic worker to support her six children.

After the death of her first husband, Shagufta remarried to secure her daughters future, but little did she know that her step would turn into a nightmare.

One month ago, Shagufta’s second husband, Ghulam Qadir, forced his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Maryam, to marry his 35-year-old brother, Roshan Ali.

In a video statement on social media, Maryam revealed that before the marriage, her stepfather and uncle raped her and her eight-year-old sister Noor.

Maryam added, “My stepfather and uncle threatened my sister and me that if we informed anyone, they would kill us.”

Speaking to The Independent Urdu, Shagufta Bibi said, “When my daughter told me about the abuse, I talked to my husband and his brother, but they forced me not to tell people about it. My husband threatened to divorce me and kill my children.

An FIR was lodged by Shagufta Bibi at Karachi’s Awami Colony Police Station on Monday, after which Maryam’s stepfather Ghulam Qadir and uncle Roshan Ali were taken into police custody.

  • Where is government and state? This is state’s responsibility to arrest the culprits and be a party to this in court etc. Make an example out of such people and it may stop such cases in future, at least some if not all.
