Move to Italy and Earn As Much As $28,500 by Doing Nothing! Here's how

A village in Italy\’s enchanting Abruzzo region is offering residents big bucks to relocate and live la dolce vita. Sounds too good to be true? Well, it is!

It is all part of a scheme cooked up a couple of years ago. Under this scheme, many Italian towns have given away houses for as low as 1 euro each. The village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio in Italy recently joined in and offered people up to $52,500 to move there and work.

How much will you get paid?

The village will offer a grant of up to €8,000 a year (or $9,500) for three years, paid monthly—for a total of €24,000 or $28,500. Santo Stefano will offer a one-time grant of €20,000 ($24,000) for someone who wants to launch a business in the village, which could total as much as $52,500. The town council will also provide a place to live.

Why does the village want to pay you to move there?

Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a breathtaking medieval village in Italy\’s Abruzzo region. It is set amid mountains and pastures in the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga national park. However, this slice of heaven is occupied by 115 residents only, out of which 35 percent are over 65. The village is looking to lure the next generation, so it is paying people to move there. The town council explained the aim of the new initiative and said:

This initiative aims to attract new residents, and its goal is to give a further demographic boost to the area.

 Who is eligible to participate in this scheme?

Here are the few requirements to be eligible:

  • Applicants need to be at least 18 but no older than 40
  • Applicants need to be a resident of Italy or the EU (or can become one)
  • Applicants need to be moving from a place that has more than 2,000 residents
  • Applicants need to stay for a minimum of five years
  • Applicants may open a business related to several specific areas: tourism, sports, culture, cleaning, maintenance, drugstore management, or marketing and selling local food

Santo Stefano di Sessanio started accepting applications on the 15th of October 2020. The application deadline is the 15th of November 2020. About 1,500 people have already applied to participate in the village\’s new initiative.
